M1 Carbine Trigger Adjustment

Take your receiver out of the stock and have a look at your trigger assembly in its housing. The beauty of this design immediately shows you where your drag/creep is coming from and where some careful stoning can be done.

Sear contact is sear contact and it needs to be reduced in some manner to reduce creep. Another thing you may want to try is to take a coil or two off the hammer spring. This will also reduce the effort needed to let off the trigger.

Now, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. I would repeat that again but it really shouldn't be necessary.

People have been trying to reduce the creep and pounds needed to release the hammer on M1 Carbines ever since it first came out. They can easily be made to work in the full auto mode without realizing you are doing it. I have seen them with their sear engagements honed so fine that a sharp rap on the side of the stock will allow the hammer to fall. The system wasn't designed for precise work but stressful field conditions.

Yes, you can decrease the tension on the hammer spring but, carefully. It isn't such an issue with commercial ammo using primers intended for civilian use. It can be an issue if you happen across some surplus ammo with hard primers. Google is your friend. There are some youtube videos describing visually what you need to look out for.
