I have a Springfield Mfg M1 Garand sn 299###. 1941 Action with a 1942 Barrel on it. Is there any way I could get info on who it was issued to or what units it might have been with, or where it might have seen action if any before it went to the civilian market.

Just curious. The original stock was not on it when I got it. It has a plastic ramline stock but now its back in oil rubbed wood courtesy of Boyds.

Shoots Great. About a 2-3 MOA gun with hand-loads.

Thanks

It virtually impossible to track the provenance on the M-1 Garand...due mainly to the fact there were millions of them made and generally speaking records of issue were not kept. It is very unusual to find a unit listing of rifles issued to soldiers. The Springfield Research Newsletter has published 4 books containing serial numbers of U.S. Martial Arms...they do list some M-1s though not very many...there are far more 1873 trapdoors listed then anything, and there was only 565,000 of those made.
Sounds like an awesome rifle you have there!!!
