Cabin fever is setting in and I'm thinking of building a M1 Garand in 8X63 Swede. Was going to get
a worn 30/06 barrel and have it re-bored to 8mm and ream to the 8X63 swede. An adjustable gas
plug and Bob's your uncle. Any other problems you Garand guru's can think I'll run into on this project?

I know someone who almost did this with an FN49 back when Marstar had an "endless" supply of it.

I own a Garand, but I'm not a Garand Guru. I've played a lot with 8X63, but I'm not an 8X63 Guru either.

That said, and first things first, the 8X63 is close to the 30-06, but a bit larger in several dimensions. I'd first see how it fits into an Enbloc and then into a Garand. You could neck some down to 30 Cal (don't touch the body) and load up some 220 gr bullets with the same powder (but less of it than in the 8X63) and get a preview of it in action.

unless your sitting on a few K there's no point this ammo is gone it kicks like a mule and you would probably bend your oprod better off reaming an 8mm mauser k98 there are a few chamber reamers in Canada I sold my 8x63 reamer to someone on here years ago

Ammo is not a problem, I have a reamer and dies...also have a FN98,Browning 1919, and a TC pro hunter all in 8X63. As long as
you can bleed off the right amount of gas pressure you shouldn't beat the action up.

X2 - if anyone's going to do this, it's you.

Even though it's been almost 10 years since Marstar ran out, there's still quite a bit around in pockets here and there. I still have several crates myself. If it ever ran out it's not difficult to make up 8X63 from 30-06 or 9.3X62, or you rebarrel the Garand back to 30-06.
