M1 Garand anchor marking on rear sight?

I have a springfield armoury M1 Garand with anchor stamping on rear site . anyone know what it signifies . from the serial number she was made in Oct 1942 and seems to be in good shape , although the wood seems to have a varnish finnish !!! on it .havent fired it but bore sems ok rifling looks good.

I can't tell from the pics but does the whole stock seem varnished or just in patches? Mine seemed varnished but it was patchy. Maybe dried on cosmo or whatever oil the Danes used? Furniture stripper cleaned it right off though and the wood looks great now.

just hijacking, dont mind me or my gun but does anyone know why the bolt has a serial # hand engraved? Mine has 1 too but like the OP's it does not match the serial # of the reciever or bolt. Ideas? BTW nice M1, I gotta get mine out again soon

For security reasons the bolts were stored separate from the guns. Just like the M14 rifle bolts were numbered to the guns because the national Guard stored them separate.
