M1 Garand - Cleaning info, operation info?

Hey everyone, haven't posted a lot. Just buying and reading.

Anyways am in the process of aquiring a M1 from a fellow CGN'er. And I've wanted one since I found out about them. Now I'm not really 100% sure on the correct way to field strip to clean. Is there any good books or websites out there that I can find out this stuff?

releasing bolt
Hold op rod back with edge of hand
Depress follower with thumb until you hear a click
REMOVE THUMB
release op rod.

Failure to follow these steps will result in chambering thumD

An experience you will not wish to repeat!!!!!!!!
