Need some help.
I just picked up an M1 Garand. All SA and all correct drawing numbers for the year and with the original barrel. It's in great shape but there are some numbers I don't know about.
On the right side of the butt is stamped AA which I understand to mean Agusta Arsenal rebuild but below that are some numbers. Perhaps a foreign military serial number but I don't know. Anyone?

They are Augusta Arsenal rebuild #s. I have 49179. I believe they were stamped just to quantify how many rifles were rebuilt.

Funnily enough I was asking the same question about those markings. Sounds like I have a duplicate of your rifle, Springfield 1954 with AA markings. I'm trying to get an idea what to sell it for. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for yours ? PM if you do not wish to discuss on an open forum or if buying price is too forward a question, my apologies.

Looks like a great rifle, enjoy !!

Well I paid $300 for it 3 days ago from a hunter, not a collector. Mine is 1953 vintage SA (all parts correct for the year and manufacturer). The elevation knob has a fine crack but everything else is fantastic and was still almost completely coated in cosmoline. Standard ball ammo will drop into the muzzle leaving 1/4 inch of jacket showing so the barrel is still very good and is bright and crisp down the bore.
It also came with 96 rounds of ammo on clips.
You might get more than that for yours.

Thanks for sharing the price you paid, what a great deal !!!! Would love to see more pics.

Here are mine, both 1954 Springfields with Augusta Armory rebuild stamps.

My only problem now is that seeing as you paid $300.00 and I want to sell one or both of mine, but without ammo, I should be asking about $250.00 each !!!!!:D

Looks like an auction is in order! I'd be bidding on the pair, and $300.00 each is too low even to start!

is this actually gonna be for sale?

This seems to be going a little off track.

I was orriginally struck by the similarity between the OPs Garand markings and mine, and had similar questions.

Due to that similarity I was curious as to the price he paid and then in a rather tongue in cheek fashion made the comment about the future selling price for mine.

If there is any selling to be done, I will do it in the EE, not at the expense of the OPs post here.

Sorry for the confusion.
