M1 Garand loading tricks

The M-1 Garand is a right handed weapon, you load and fire it from the right side/shoulder. My left handed brother joined the US Navy in 1966 and was trained with the M-1 Garand. made a point of All firing was done right handed, all disassembly was done with the rifle oriented to the sailors right. Our father was, like the video presenter's father, a veteran of the US Army, in the Pacific, during WWII, and also made a point showing me, when I got my M-1, how the M-1 loves to eat thumbs.
 
I watched this vid the night before my first experience and it definately saved me from one incident. Now I fondle the weapon and see what the parts and springs all do when she's empty prior to loading a new gun(to me)
 
i used my 308 garand in a few IPSC rifle matches once... never again LOL. 30 degree heat and the weight of that rifle.. it was cooking after 2 stages i had to wear gloves to hold it.
