Finished building my M1 Garand but have strange issues with the oprod spring (by Wolff). First; it was extremely hard to install compared to some video I have seen, and once installed the follower would not bottom out. I tripled checked the orientation of all the smaller parts and they are correct. Is it possible the spring is too long? I've read Wolff adds more tension than stock GI spec so that might have been the problem.

The Wolff springs are too long and should be avoided. Specified op rod spring length for correct functioning 19.75 in to 20.25 in.

Proper MILSPEC op rod springs can be purchases from Numrich/GPC and Brownells.

I built mine with a piston converted to 7.62 and then changed back to full length. I found I had to clip my operating spring 1/2 " to make things work.

Thanks for the suggestions and info everyone. Before I start clipping springs I will try to get my hands on an Orion spring or usgi one.
