I'm looking to purchase an post war garand either Danish or Italian. I'm looking for a rifle in excellent condition, what should I expect to pay for nice Garand?

Thanks

Paul

it was actually a very reasonable price (it's sitting in my gunsafe as I write this ) you have to look at the whole unit first it was is an M1D which is the sniper version of the garand (as well the harder to find M1C) it came with not only the sling, cheekpiece (MRT 1952)and bayonet (U. C.)it also came with the hard to get machined not stamped "Hart" flashider a piece by itself has quite a bit of value and the proper(US) chamber brush/taketool and the butt cleaning kit .yes it is a winchester receiver but is a Korean war rebuild with all the proper marks on the barrel and not like the Danish "D"s that came in this rifle has a minty bore it's doesn't have the scope but it might still be in the estate and I've told Al I will gladly pay extra for it if it shows up .overall conditon is excellent and will be a nice addition to the other "D" I have (complete)as well as my last month production "SA"

all in all I think it was a very good deal .

for those who care the barrel date is 1952 "SA" w /"P" proof on both barrel and scope block .I don't beleave this one is danish contract IMHO

Good find..... :)

Is the barrel stamped with the "D731......" series ?

On top for barrels mfg prior to the fall of 52 and on the side after that ....

i took the wood off so heres the numbers
D7312555 A165B. with crossed cannons the an "M" then a"J" I'm not sure if that is a contract number (maybe Danish) or a part number any info would be great

Hi Mark..... :)

I believe that your barrel is correct for a properly built sniper.

My own M1D Garand sniper rifle (mfg by Springfield in March 1944) c/w Dutch M84 (2.5x) Scope, was re-barreled in June 1952 "SA-6-52" (marking located on right side of barrel) with a correct M1D sniper barrel "-D73112555 A155B-" (marking located on top of barrel).

Hope this helps........

I have one of the Danish rifles myself when they first came to Districorp myself and my friends bought 10 it is a very nice rifle .I'm hoping the scope turns up for this rifle .I also had a really nice winchester with 90% ofthe parts still winchester I didn't bother trying to make it 100% but one part was really neat the gas cylinder was marked with WRA and part number it was the only one I've seen like that

If that scope doesn't show up from the estate,
Sarco in New Jersey has the M84 scope for $695 USD, without the mount.
