I've noticed the same thing with my Garand. First round is an inch or more out of the group at 50 yds. Doesn't matter whether it is the first group of the day or the last. Moderate load of 4064 and 165 Hornady SP's. My thought is that it occurs because of no recoil impulse with round one. I chamber 1st round by letting bolt slam shut.
