Good Morning Everyone,

I have searched and searched and I cannot seem to find anywhere on here or online where to buy M1 Garand Receivers and Barrels. I have read all the threads on Brownells and Numrich and how to get parts into Canada but it seems orders over $200 will not ship. They both will sell barrels but not receivers (although I have read there may be problems getting barrels here). I know that the receiver is considered the "Firearm" so this will be the tricky part. I also know there are some Canadian part suppliers as well which is great but they do not have receivers and not the selection in barrels. It really is to Bad we cannot buy from the CMP Program!

The reason I ask is because I would like to start assembling/building them and tinkering as they fascinate me and I really want to learn how to assemble them but I cannot seen to have any luck on how to get a receiver or a barrelled receiver into my hands. I have a built one coming to me from another member to reference but does anyone have any suggestions on where to start?

Once I get that here I have books and videos on how to "assemble" them and I think it will be fun to build a few from parts. I also searched an read about head spacing. Where can you buy the tools to do this or is there a recommended gunsmith in Canada who can do this. I would also like to find a set of throat and muzzle erosion gauges as well and a headspace gauge. Any ideas on these pieces?

Thank you in advance for any information you may have!

I can get you brand new barrels, new 30-06 or 308 Kriterion, or new unissued SA barrels in 30-06. The rest of the parts are easy to get. The challenge will be getting a receiver, you will need to post a wanted to buy add and try to get a bare receiver or barreled action. The rest is easy.

Headspace gauges and throat gauges are available from brownells. I also have the cutter to finish ream the chamber in 308 for new 308 barrels. These will be expensive to buy only to use them for a couple of times. I purchased all the gear in order to facilitate a bunch of garand builds without having to sub out to a gunsmith...

Unless you know someone who has a receiver for sale you will frustrate yourself trying to find one. There are several guys that have WTB adds that have been bumping them forever. Save yourself the time and buy a complete (or near complete) rifle. The cheap sources for receivers have pretty much dried up and the people that have them are charging an arm and a leg. Trust me I've been down the path. You're better off to buy a real M1 with some history to it because it will be cheaper than building your own mixmaster. If you want to tinker and build a shooter I suggest assembling an M1A with some US parts from a Norinco rifle platform. Parts are a lot easier to come by. Hope this helps, just my opinion and YMMV.
