Has anyone seen any of these T26 or Tanker models for sale in Canada...Restricted or non Restricted? Heard they're quite loud.

I bet they are loud! I sure wouldn't mind having one though! GRIN I find those short Mosin Nagant carbines awful nasty in the flash and muzzle blast department too. I expect those Tankers would be much the same.

The "tanker" description is a JOKE. Try climbing out of the hatch on a tank with an M1, either long or short.
AND there were only about 10 real ones. They never made it to the troops.

Their are a few kicking around. I'd much rather have one of those instead of a chopped Norc. Believe that most barrels are 18.25" so they're restricted unfortunately.

Numrich sometimes has the kits in stock, in 30-06 and .308.

A 18 5/8" barrel would be needed. The splines make shortening a M-1 barrel tricky. The folks who make the aftermarket 18" barrels might make a one-off longer one, but it would have to be exported from the US. The op. rod has to be shortened and altered.

I have one that I bought here once upon a time.
It is in 308 with an 18.5 inch barrel. Unfortuneately it has a Ram-Line black plastic stock, which is too light for this heavy beast. Silverback fully bedded it for me, because after every shot it wanted to leap out of it's stock. It had some feeding issues as well. With Silverback's copy of an excellent Culhausen Shop Manual we sorted it out.

Took three months of grief, and parts replacement, which paid off, now it feeds/funtions/shoots, flawlessly.
It now has a different scope though, it NOW has a Leupold 2.5 scout scope, and Silverback banged the gong consistantly at 300 yards with it last time we shot it.
(It knocked the reticles out of a Burris 2 3/4 & a Redfield "magnum" pistol scope)

With the Redfield pistol scope, that this little rifle "tore apart" in less than 200 rounds. With that scope I had a few sub-MOA grops at 100 yards, using the 6 power setting, when the reticles were still in place.

PS It is comparitively louder! One gets "magnum face" after only about 20-30 rounds....
So much so, one esteemed Cold Lake shooter, called it a 308 pistol!

As too any disparaging comments, yes at first it looks toy-like. Its black plastic stock, would not have been my first choice, or second choice either.
But really expect for a few specialized parts, its just another Garand, and we have alot of corporate knowledge available off and on-line, in regards to maintaining them.

I have only seen one. The fellow that lives next door to my parents has one. He is retired R.C.E. like my dad. I looked at the Ser. No. and it's close to my M1 Garands number 29955374 (Apr.-May 1944 mfg) His starts with 30 and has 8 digits total, so I think it too was made in 1944?

Abbotsford, B.C. eh!!

Just a little background on these "rifles". First, there was some trials done with them, but they were mainly for use in the jungle. I think I read that a 1000 or so were converted for use in the Phillipinnes, but the project was dropped do to the "huge" muzzle flash in the jungle. (they could see you for miles...) and as I understand it, those rifles were converted back to standard barrels. The only real ones are in the Springfield Museum. They also did some trials on at para model, but it never went past the prototype stage.
