Hi there.
Just received my M1 garand that i purchased from a fellow CGN member. Very happy with the rifle. I did happen to notice what looks like some wood filler in certain areas of the stock. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before on other M1's, and if someone could fill me in on what it might be.

Thanks.

Look like somebody tried a glass bedding job, and not a very elegant one. The military did glass bed stocks on match Garands, but this isn't one of them. You often see military stocks with the seats for the trigger housing cut out and built up with wooden inserts in order to restore a tight lock up when the trigger guard is closed.

Thanks for the info. Any ideas on how I could clean it up and make it look a little better, while still having everything lock up tight?

Delicate job, but you could try to carefully sand it down (using fine sand paper and a block or similar flat surface) until it no longer shows when the receiver is assembled in the stock.
