Anyone know if these are CMP rifles?
Some have painted numbers on the woodwork others seem to have newish wood.
By mandate the CMP can only sell rifles to qualified American purchasers. I "thumbed" thru the Tradex website and see that the majority of these rifles have been rebarreled at some point, which is mostly the case with Garands.
Would you think this would be a decent buy for a guy looking for a WWII Garand?
I'd like to get a WWII receiver with a decent barrel and wood work.
Not really when you can get one for $1500-$1600 in rebuilt to as new condition.
Reliable in Vancouver had a couple of CMP M1 Garands for sale recently.
Unless your a collector, I would think the rebuilds from the EE were a better deal.
Depends who did the rebuilding. There's been a big fad in building these up on the cheaply priced Beretta and Breda receivers over the past few yrs.
Are the Beretta and Breda receivers inferior to the Springfield and others?
I remember Irunguns had a limited numbers of these rifles, sold out in hours..
No. The Breda and Beretta receivers and rifles were built to a very high standard. They just don't have the collector's appeal of a US built Winchester or Springfield that was in service during the WW2/Korea era.
The Breda and Beretta receivers that we see in Canada are from rifles that were made on contract for Denmark. I've built quite a few rifles on them and they are excellent. They tend to have been used more lightly and were rebuilt less often than the Garands in US service. I've never seen an unservicable Breda or Beretta receiver, or even one with cosmetic pitting.
I would be interested in knowing if they came from another Ontario dealer?
