M1 with a poor bore

I've got a WWII Springfield M1 Garand wich has a poor bore.
I realy want a good shooter so I'm thinking about selling it.
What would my best bet be (dollar wise).

Should I look into selling it to Marstar (who would part it out) or to someone who wants to do a .308 conversion...etc.
And how much should I expect to get.

Also does anyone here, have a good shooter for sale?

You are probably better off selling it to a fellow CGN member, intact. What sort of shape is it in, other than the bore?

Assuming the gun is matching, and the finish & wood are all in pretty good shape, I would say the gun should be worth around $350.00-$450.00 with a shot-out barrel, but that is a rough guess without knowing the overall condition.
 
My M1 came out of the Phillipines with a bore that looked like five miles of bad road. I had it rebarreled and still have it.

By the way, 30-06 is not exactly an exotic cartridge. There's lots of ammo around, not to mention tons of new unprimed brass.

I picked up a mint barrel at knob creek last year for 85$ and resurected my Garand. Find yourself a barrel, It'll be cheaper than finding another rifle, and more fun!

PS the old girl deserves it!

I realy DONT want to part it out if i can find someone who wants it complete.
I'm not doing anything quite yet. Just wanted to know who all would be interested.

Oh here's a pic. The rifle is pretty clean (not mint but clean) The barrel is already a replacement but all parts are SA (not sure how to see if their dated to match though)

I always have a laugh at the M1 fanatics who want "all original parts" It was a MILITARY RIFLE. As such, if anything broke, the armourer reached into the parts box and replaced any broken bits to get it back into service, regardless of who mande them and when, since its purpose was to kill the enemy.

I want an ORIGINAL stock! You mean no soldier EVER dropped his rifle or had battle damage?

If its all ORIGINAL, there's a good chance it never left the States.

By the way, is the stacking swivel missing? Doesn't seem to be there in the pic.
 
Yes I'm afraid the stacking swivel is missing.

The pin for the front sling swivel is also missing (the guy I got it off of had stuck a small bolt through it, Wich I've since removed to prevent the hole from being worn.)
However I checked Marstar and those parts should be available and are only a couple of dollars.

What I'd REALY like is to find someone who has a good shooter for sale/ trade.

with a replaced barrel, you WILL have a good shooter. You are going to take a beating in a trade as the other guy will use the poor barrel as a reason to cut the price. Guess what he's gonna do with his "bargain" M1. No brainer, he is going to rebarrel it and have a good shooter.
 
I paid $100 US for a recrowned 54 SA barrel with a great bore! Installation was included by my friend. Just about "any" smith can just install a barrel, that being said find a "Garand Smith" to be sure that the barrel is indexed properly!!! If your barrel is not indexed correctly you will have sight trouble and you may have mechanical problems as well. Well worth finding the right tech.
