Ignoring the reliability questions around the M10X, is is realistic to turn an M10X into visually an AK clone?

- Replace the stock with a standard AK wood stock
- Flip to right hand charge and seal up the left side
- Replace the charging handle with an AK-like hook
- It already takes normal AK grips and mags
- Chop the monolithic handguard and replace with AK wood handguard
- AK like iron sights
- AK muzzle device

I know this has been done with the T81 but I'm not terribly interested in buying Chinese.
Or am I totally off my rocker with this mod?

Personally I feel like it is best viewed as a modernized AK stand in.

Just a heads up though, if you do decide to go through with this project you will technically be cutting the upper receiver because it's an extrusion that has the handguard milled into it. The good news is this is not the controlled part of the firearm, the controlled part is the trunnion insert.

With this in mind I think it would be doable but I think your best course of action would be to separate the trunnion from the upper receiver Extrusion and fabricate completely new upper receiver Extrusion.

One of the most challenging aspects of this project in my mind would be mounting up a fixed stock, as the takedown lever for the gun is accessed through the Zukov stock adapter when it is folded

The only endearing feature of the AK fow is their reputation for reliability, and their history as a milsurp.
Neither of which can be had with an M10 clone.

While I don't get turning a t-81 into a look-alike either, at least you would have the reliability covered.

just go your own way; put a wood stock and grip on it and have something unique - modern with a nod to the cold war origins.

but yeah, start with something that runs better than the m10x.

In a perfect world I'd definitely be going Valmet but they cost more than I'd be willing to drop on this project.

A T81 while technically interesting is still a Chinese made gun and I'd just rather not.

Seems that the CGN consensus is it's not worthwhile to do this mod and I can't say I disagree with the points presented.
