I have been looking on the internet for awhile as well as on m14forums and I can't seem to find a clear answer.

Building an Norc receiver, USGI parts with a 18.5" Criterion barrel. I have a NM rear and front sight. Will the standard height front sight be appropriate, or do I need a TALLER sight???

Thanks in advance.
BB

You need a taller front sight.
Springfield bush rifle front sight for 18" barrels. Order from springfield directly.
I do not know if they offer a thinner blade NM version

the bush rifle sight has a taller base as well as the correctly positioned height for blade and ears for the correct sight picture.
I don't have measurements handy but I do know that increasing blade height alone like what is seen on the Chinese shorty front sights just doesn't cut it LOL
so many of us have found the bush rifle front sight to be the only real correctly machined option for the 18.5" front sight option, on the flash hider or on a gas lock dovetail

Agreed, you need the tall Bush/Scout front sight that Springfield Armory, Inc. sells.

If you install a Smith GLFS-D-18, you can use your existing NM front sight.

if anyone would know it'd be you but does SEI make that unit with the Chinese metric thread?
be the cats azz if he did

SAI Scout front sight is part #AA0510. Ordered directly from SAI. Mention Canadian sale when you call so they direct your call correctly before you order. There is a NM front sight that has a similar part number but is too short.

Are there SA flash suppressors out there without dovetails?
If I used the SEI gas lock one then I would prefer a non dovetailed flash suppressor. If possible.

The SEI GLFS is designed to work with the DC Vortex & Good Iron Brake, and their sound suppressor fits over... no dovetail.

18" with GLFS-D-18 and a DC Vortex. The dovetail is elevated, so you can use a standard NM front sight.

Since were on the subject, does anyone have any input on the Dlask variable gas lock? This unit is suppose to be threaded for the M305 & appearently accepts stock (& probably aftermarket?) front sights. http://dlaskarms.com/collections/m14-m305-parts/products/m14-adjustable-gas-lock
I have one on my 18.5" Nork. Well made, corrects gas lock tensioning problems. I ended up buying a S.A. "bush rifle" front sight
so that I could get a zero of 7 clicks up for 100yds.

Ordered the SAI scout front sight. Width was national match. Very nice ppl. Ordered my 18.5" criterion from LRB. Excellent customer service!!!

Now if I only new how to paint a nice desert camo stock that would be great!!!
