Shot my norc at longer ranges for the first time yesterday. Only managed to get 1 round out of 10 on paper at 200 yds using iron sights. I guess I'm gonna have to practice a heck of a lot more:dancingbanana:

My 100 yd target blew away before I could measure it. It was pretty damn cold and windy yesterday:D Needless to say, I was the only idiot out there!!! I was very impressed with my 1895g grouping at 100 yds. However I have my Bushnell 3200 10x40 on it. I will switch the scope to the m14 when I find a suitable mount.

"...1 round out of 10 on paper at 200 yds..." 200 yards isn't long range. Either the wind was blowing the bullets way off or you're not sighted in properly at 100. Sight in, off a bench, 3" high at 100 and you'll be on target out to about 300 with no hold over with most ammo. A 10x scope isn't needed for a .308 either. Reduces the field of view too much and buggers the balance. 2.5x to 8x is plenty.

I get 2-3" groups at 100.

I sighted in on a 25m range with the following target:

http://142.179.174.253/m1a.pdf (I forgot where I got it from but someone other than me deserves the credit)

Get your rifle hitting the line above, while your aiming for the black dot and then loosen your elevation nut, then turn your sight adjustment to between 2 & 300m, tighten the nut again. I leave the bloody windage alone once I got it set as it kept screwing with my elevation as well. Also, I counted my clicks up from bottom incase I ever get the feeling that my sights are off.

Voila, bobs your uncle and you should be able to hit stuff with a 4-6" group at 200 - if you can see the bloody target.

I found with the M14 that I start to flinch if I'm shooting in a light T-shirt (AR15 wimp) Also, the front blade is very thick; it was roughly the width of a man (Vietcong :p ) shaped silhouette target at 100m.

Buy yourself a case of the S.A surplus and stop counting your rounds down range, saying to yourself; "thats a dollar, thats another dollar." :(

You'll never have more fun or learn more then when your new. Have at it and have a great time at it to boot! Find yourself a 4' X 4' piece of cardbord and mount your target in the center of it. You can patch it with masking tape and it will show you if your grouping off the paper or just tossing them all over:redface: . Most factories use this size of cardboard as a pallet spacer, some one you know must work in one, beg borrow or steal;) . Now get out there and warm that barrel up again:dancingbanana:
