M14 bayonet - the M6, how much?

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this question but here goes.

I was offered a brand new in wrap 1968 issue M6 bayonet. Never been opened. What would a fair market price be for such a beast?
 
Here in the U.S. about $30-35 US. Beware there are repro's floating around as New in the wrap USGI that are fakes . I am not saying that this ones is, just stating a fact .

these things tend to take on a life of their own when they become collectors items- the ones from germany are good steel, look new, and fit like usgi- or at least mine does- but it's unmarked- the real thing has usm6 or m6 right on the blade above the safety( the thing with the hole in it) ot whatever you call it- balde guard- and if i recall there's only about 3 companies that made the real thing- depends if you want all authentic( kind of pointless- excuse the pun- if you've got a a polytech or norinco) or just something to hang on the barrel and look good- then the german ones are fine- incidentally, i paid about 30 bucks us for my german repro from numrich- that's what they go for from sherwood/numrich and a host of others- it says blade by solingen or eich on them somewhere- like i said it's a good steel that's in them, just not usgi- my REAL one was about 75 bucks , and was an issued with almost all the park worn off - and i was darned lucky to get it-but then i have the real thing too
 
addemdum to that- issue 1968?- considering the last m14 was made about 63 or so, and the handback was completed in 68-70 for most troops, i'd be somewhat suspicous of a new in the wrap m6 bayonet dated 68- i'm not saying it couldn't be, or it might be part of an over run, but an m7 dated dated 68 would be far more plausable- btw, it should come with an m8 or m8a1 shelter- if there's no markings on the shelter, it's a repro

Hard to say, production for M14 parts has ongoing.

Some mag contracts and Bi-pod contracts in the early '80s.

I've had several pags in the past of origional M14 parts..that I know are/were the real thing dated in the lated '60's

Well, I couldn't resist so I bought the damn thing.

It came in a box sealed in a plastic bag. Writing on the bag is exactly this:

The bayonet itself has U.S.M6 on the left side of the handguard and Imperial on the right side. Both facing the knife edge, readable with bayonet lying on right side. The blade is black, black, black with a very fine edge ground completely around to the top flat. All other metal is black. No other markings. No rust and nothing really like oil or cosmoline to protect it, just the wrap.

This box contained one bayonet and no sheath. I tried to take pictures but my digital camera is crap and I'm sure you all have had enough of ruining your eyes on blurry pictures.

Should be authentic, yes/no?

Just wanted to add that there was a folded cardboard sheath around the blade on the outside of the silver wrap as well. No writing on it though.

yes, that's the real thing-as far as i can tell- the imperial gives it away-the corrosion inhibitor bag is the reason it's not packed in cosmo or oil- like i said the real ones are marked just like that- now for the shelter, if you can find m8 or m8a1, you'll have the correct shelter- lucky for you the m16/m7 bayonet uses the same shelter- should be easy to find 1 of those- the folded cardboard sheath is there just to prevent damage to the blade from shipping- if i were you i'd keep that as is and get a repro for fooling around with/if i had a norc that's looking for a baynet lug- what you've got will be hard to come by twice

I bought it's twin on ebay a few years ago. It says Imperial and M6 on the guard, I also got it new in the wrap. The M8A1 scabbard that came with it(not in the wrap) says Made in West Germany on it.
BTW, that bayonet company at Solingen I believe has made bayonets on contract for the US military...I wouldn't take them as repros necessarily. Years ago when I had my Winchester and TRW M14's, I had a West German bayonet to go with them. I've also seen Colt M16 bayonets from Solingen.

Also, weren't the latest series of bayonets that CF issued made at the same factory?

The correct U. S. military term is "scabbard" not "shelter" and the proper scabbard is the M8A1. The M8 scabbard is a early version and would be proper for a M4 knife-bayonet for the M1 Carbine or for a M5 Knife-bayonet for the M1 rifle.
 
M 6 Bayonet for M14

If you are looking for an M14 bayonet look on eBay. Just type in M6 bayonet or US bayonet and narrow it down. If you don't like the price on eBay just wait a week or two and another one will pop up. Don't use the plural when typing bayonet, don't type in bayonets. There are from 1,000 to 1,500 on the site at any given time. I have a few of the M6 bayonets and one is chromed.

Oh I forgot to add one thing.

A lot of stuff was arsenal re-packed.....in some cases more than once.

This makes being fooled.......both ways (getting the real thing....thinking it's re-pro or vs).....even easier.

I'd say that you got the real thing, i've had over a dozen of them.....from various sources......all real, but some were sharpened, re-parked, and re-packed and sold to me as "new".
