Hey you M14 Guru's.
I have a Norc M14 My question is if i were to change bbls would a special
bbl have to be ordered?Or could any .308 bbl be turned to work?
part 2 of the equasion would a heavy bbl from Rem or another brand oftake
off improve accuracy of the Norc M14?
I have a couple of .308 bbl in excellent shape from other projects and I was
just thinking of maybe another project since I already have the parts.

If you had to pay a gunsmith to do it, the amount of PRECISION work involved [ cutting the rather large and SQUARE threads, indexing, cutting the gas assembly grooves, cutting the front sight grooves, drilling the gas port ... ETC!] in converting any old .308 barrel into an M-14 barrel would probably cost about ten times what a decent USGI surplus barrel would cost.
PLUS, the M-14 barrel threads are larger in diameter than most others, so some sort of two piece adapter would have to be made up ...not so good!

Since the USGI surplus barrels [ and some of the Norinco barrels too ] are often capable of shooting SUB MOA if the rest of the rifle is up to it ... what would be the point??

Ya........ but getting them on your own is a pain in the ass......with all the lisencing you have to go through.......

I managed to get e few barrels in the past.

2 Barnett barrels from the US and 1 crazy horse barrel from a source on this site:dancingbanana:

But, even with all the trouble, you are still winning over getting one cut on a remmy blank.....

Exactly what Lazerus2000 and Simonyzer said. They saved me a pile of typing.

So what kind of game would you need a more accurate (than the factory Norinco) barrel for ?

Unless you are shooting NRA High Power, Precision rifle , or Service rifle, the Norinco barrel is fairly accurate for most people's needs. Save your money....
