Some one , somewhere , some time had a picture of a homemade M14 bolt disassembly tool .
IIRC it was with a quick clamp and I think a 45 acp cartridge or something .
I can't find it , looked almost every where and it's driving me nuts .
any help would be great .
Thanks .

For a no-cost method...Use a .308 shell head, (cut about 3/8" from the extractor groove) and a good size bench vise (3" opening). Clamp the bolt with the case head into the padded vise, bottom side up, to relieve the ejector presure. Tap the extractor out and catch it in a rag or something. Now carefully release the bolt from the vise while holding your other hand around the bolt face to catch the ejector and ejector spring. That's it, remove all other parts and you're done. It probably takes longer to read this than to do it :D

To re-assemble, do the reverse.

I use a 30.06 "shot" case and my rifle and op rod to compress the ejector and spring and then tap the extractor in with a small rubber mallet when I get it lined up and held steady with one hand and then a good whack with the mallet and in she goes . Be sure to remove the op rod spring first .
It works like a charm and as Hungry says is a "Welfare method".
