Hi Frontier,
Bought a Norinco M14 off you a year ago and finally got out to shoot it (or try to) last month. It doesn't seem like the firing pin is reaching the primer on my ammo. Is this common for these guns? Do I need a new, new bolt? Suggestions?
Thanks

How well did you clean it....now be honest...? :D

I have seen on many a rifle soaked in cosmoline or other preservatives, have gummed up bolts and pins....that and the ammo.

Did you clean out your bolt with solvent/brake clean? Can you hear it when you shake it? Disassemble bolt and have a look at the firing pin tip. Is it round and smooth if not maybe a small piece broke off. How deep of a indent in the primer?

Thanks everyone.
I gave it a good cleaning before taking it out. Took out the bolt and the firing pin slides freely. I only tried the one ammo. The firing pin is round. It didn't make a dent at all in the primer. I'll try buy a box of something else and give it a shot.

Do you have a measuring device? Vernier caliper etc? I can measure mine and then you can compare. Mine measured 3.402. Go over to Battle rifles and have alook at the stickies at the top of the page and post this question there. Lots of people with way more know how then me.

i think the REAL problem here is you purchased a gun and then waited a year to fire it!

thats it, turn in your man card!

haha, sorry, had to do it!
it sounds like your pin isnt going as far as it should.
go over to the battle rifle forum and ask in there, there are a couple guys over there that are crazy good with the M14's and can probably talk ya through this.
and they also host work shops around canada on them too, so you may wanna check into those.

yeah, yeah. haha. i was on a bit of a buying spree and this one got put to the back of the safe. :)
i got some good ideas to work on from the posters. hopefully get to that before another year passes.
