Hi all,
I'm just starting to look into my first M14 build. I've found the first obvious thing...that most websites and ways of purchasing M14 parts (barrels, receivers, bolts, gas systems, etc...) are based in the US and the main obstacle is trying to get the same parts from a Canadian vendor.
Just wondering what other folks who took on M14 builds have used as their Canadian suppliers.

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben,
My first question would be to ask what rifle you have right now and whether you are looking for a high end build or a budget shooter? The parts from what I have found that are not available to us from the States are barrel, reciever, and trigger housing. (I have tried sourcing the other parts in Canada as well but very few available it seems}. M14.ca has stocks, scopemounts and other accessories to help with an awesome build. Other stocks are available on the EE and likely a few dealers here as well.
Barrels are available from a few different sponsors here and some local gunsmiths. Not sure what recievers are available so I'm using my Norinco receiver as the start of my build and a Kreiger barrel that I hope will be here some time in February.
I have gas system parts and trigger parts coming from the States. A WTB on the EE would likely be a good start and state in the title that Dealer replies are welcome. I seem to remember seeing a new forged bolt available on one Canadian site but can't remember which one now!

Thanks Rodney,
The info helped! I don't have a complete rifle as of now. I have a norinco trigger group thats been shimmied and tightened with some USGI parts. I'm looking into an LRB barrel action possibly, but if not I would go for a krieger and a fulton bolt/norinco receiver combo. I really like the looks of the black feather stock and the guy who keeps emailing me there seems like a world of knowledge and help (always a good sign).
I was also looking at treelinem14 as well. They seem to have a good stock of parts, but not sure if they're canadian or american.

Treeline is U.S. based. Randy is a great person to deal with. Only things he can't ship to us are barrels or complete trigger groups according to the email he sent me.

Hi Ben,
The extra info on what you have planned will help a lot with the responses from fellow nutters. I have a M1A loaded and a 2007 Morinco M14S, I put the Norinco in the blackfeather stock and really like it. I have about 2000+ rounds through the Norinco with no issues so am going to use it with the Krieger 22" medium barrel when it comes in. Can't get the repeatable groups that I want with the Norinco barrel but the rest of it has been great so I think it will be worthwhile. Not sure what a non chinese reciever is worth or how to get them here but if you ever plan on selling the rifle using a Norinco reciever will likely be detrimental when it comes to the value of the build (not the quality), for resale. I'm not worried cause I never/ hardley ever sell anything anyway! Top M1A, bottom Norinco.

I found a barrel on the EE and have some questions about it.

The barrel is a KRIEGER 30 CAL 5-R Rifling barrel balnk 1-12 twist. The barrel is 1-12 twist, straight bull barrel, diameter is 1.125inch. The barrel length is 29-1/4''.

Just wondering if it would be possible/smart to purchase this barrel and cut it down to 18.5" and then attach it to either a Norc receiver or another m14 receiver.

Here is the link to the EE page:

I think this is a barrel blank meaning it is ready for modification to any rifle? Will not work for M14 and is not contoured for M14 action, op rod guide, gas system etc.

I envy guys like you who have the desire to "hunt" down parts to build an M14 (or any firearm for that matter). Personally, I wish I had the patience. I'm getting flustered just trying to find some simple tools and other parts (mags, spring guide rod, etc) all at one "store" for my SA SOCOM16.
So far I've found stuff at Brownell's, Armatac, Treeline, Dlask, SFRC, M41.ca but have yet to purchase.

It's always easier to take small bites and get the parts where you can find them, over time you will be sucessful in getting what you need. All at once would be nice but isn't possible from what I have seen. Bonus for me is I can afford to buy parts over a period of time more than all at once anyway.
Edit.... because of shipping costs it has cost me more than I expected at times as I buy more than I planned on to justify paying the shipping costs on what I originally planned to buy!!!!
