m14.ca Casm mount too tight?

I torched the screws approximately as suggested in the installation. . .even eased off a bit on the back one before setting it with locktite. Still the whole set up seems to be under quite a bit of tension and is quite bowed. . .will this little bushnell red dot be easy to zero? Will a larger scope sit nicely on this mount?

Should I be easing off some on the screws? It is my understanding that this thing should be installed with a slight bow in it.

Looks like your sight pocket might be a little out of spec. The rifle I put my CASM II mount on had a sight pocket that was angled down and to the left, and I had to shim it to mount the rail straight. You may need to do the same, it's not uncommon.

Weird because when I watched the installation video on the m14.ca site you can clearly see a bow in the one the guy installed at the end of the video when he moves it around (??) Mine originally had a bigger bow but I eased off on the back screw slightly. My understanding is there is supposed to be a large amount of spring tension in it to keep it rigid on the receiver and a bow is normal. . .perhaps it's not though!

Never even thought of shimming the front of the sight pocket. . .that might have been a good idea. . .but I put a ton of blue locktite on there so I doubt I am redoing this anytime soon. Perhaps I will wait and see how it zeros with this little bushnell and a larger scope.

I can't tell if your front screw is in contact with the receiver or not, but if it is you could try backing it off completely and see if that helps too.

Front screw is in contact with receiver 1/8th turn as recommended. . .back screw was hand torqued really hard and I backed off a bit because that was what bowed it big time. It's still bowed. . .but seems to sit super solid. . .just wondering if a larger scope might have trouble mounting to the crooked picatinny rail and be difficult to zero?? I put the bushnell trs-25 right in the dip on the rail so I think it might be okay??

Thoughts?

Tony, it is clear to me that you have over-torqued the scope mount. The installation instructions, specifically Note 3's implications are unambiguous. If the mount is flexing as it is in the photo you took my friend, it is time to re-evaluate the installation. Please review and follow the installation instructions in greater detail for the CASM scope mount and let me know how it turns out for you. I hope the email I have already sent you in response to this has been helpful. Take a look at these four examples of a correct installation:

I eased off on the rear vertical screw and reset it with blue locktite (see attached). I think it is fair to say I overtightened that screw and did not apply the same principles to the rear screw that I did to the front screw--1/8-1/4 turn. The result is a much straighter Casm mount.

I think this will be a great mount and I am excited to try it out. Thanks for all your help Frank. M14.ca has great customer service and you can count me as a satisfied customer.
