Hello everyone i am looking for a dealer who could possible bring in a m25 springfield or a a loaded m1a. I have been informed that my idea of using a ar style rifle for hunting is well....illegal and as such i am looking for a semi auto rifle to hunt with since i am bored of my bolt guns and cant find a range to strech past 800 yards around winnipeg.

again this gun would be used of hunting deer and targets at the range.

any help would be great

cheers

will give them a call monday again as i called them about a ar rifle friday.

anyothers?
and am i correct is assuming this is ok for hunting and not a restricted firearm?

Your correct, the SEMI-auto only version of the M14 is non-restricted & you can use it for hunting. IMHO, the springfield your after is over priced... You could get a NEW Norinco & do all the upgrades and probably save yourself half the $$$ a springfield is going to cost you...

Cheers

well since im a newbie to the m1a i will price out the m25 and loaded m1a, i can upgrade but do not even know what the failings are in this rifle and hence do not know where to start. plus time is a consideration for me as i work 16-18hr days 7 days a week most of the summer leaving little time for modding a gun lt alone range time till late aug.

is there a general guide line for improving the norinco as i am looking for sub moa rifle @ 100 and even 200yards

cheers

I hear ya jonesie, time is precious. That being said, have a look at the Sticky's at the top of this forum they will give you a good idea of what you can do to upgrade a Norinco M305 or M14S. Also, M14Doctor on this site does LOTS of work on the M14 and he'll be able to help you if you need anything done for your M14.

You realize your asking alot of the M14 to be sub-moa at 100 and 200... And by that I mean that it IS possible, these are good guns, but your going to have to tune that sucker, OR have someone tune it for you... My experience with the M14 is that it is around 1.5 to 2 inches at 100 with just a couple basic modifications using NATO ammo...

Unfortunately, here in Canada, your choices for a semi auto 308 are pretty limited... And your requirement for sub moa is a tall order...

Cheers

i realize a sub moa semi is asking alot, but if im target shooting then i like to be 1moa or better and sub is preffered as a hunting rifle i use only match ammo so 1moa would do but i preffer better that way if my shot placement is off or the deer is on the run i know im not going to have a flyer and a much better chance of a good kill.

I only say sub moa as my old mans BAR IN 30-06 CAN do it to 200yards while on the bench. I would like to be able to compete with him. i know its apples - oranges.

but one can hope and come hunting season if i can hit a 8"x8" steel plate at 200yards 95% of the time it will suffice for this year.

cheers

I hunted deer with my Norinco M14 last year. Not sure if I will this year yet..... it is completely stock and I prefer it that way. I was thinking of using the Savage 12FVSS this year.
