So this is the situation I have ordered a norinco m14 shorty and I'm panning on building on it to make a kinda dual perpose dmr rifle that could be used for close range no closer than 15 m and also midrange target shooting say 500m I want to scope it with a viper pst but I'm not sure if I want the 1-4x scope or the 2.5-10x viper pst ... The other options I thought about are a bushnell elite 10x fixed power on qd mounts and also have a red dot strike fire and change them out ... My gole is kinda 3 gun style although no plans for competition what do you think I should put on my m14?

Maybe the Vortex 2.5 X 10 in 50mm Good price and works well, not too heavy and quite bright for the price. Use it all the time as my eyes are not as they were when I was 30 years old. No more open sights for me :-(
They also have a red dot for low light conditions so you can get it in the kill zone in those conditions, not always easy with other type scopes. I use mine just for hunting although at the range it is also good for the near sighted people :) Got my M305 Norc making 2'' groups at 100 yards and in the Bulls eye with it. I was pleasently impressed.
Just make sure you get good quality low to medium rings for it and a cheek rest may be required. Enjoy!

The Elcan Specter DR 1.5-6 is pretty much the cream of the crop as far as optics that fit your needs does.

The optic may be $2,500 but I think it would be worth it. Sell one of your old guns and save up. If you have patients, the EE will provide. Though I saw one the other day for a very good price.

Also, they're made in Canada and used by all kinds of militaries, including some US special forces I believe.
