Can anyone advise what size hex bolt should be in a Norinco flash hider? I've tried both metric and imperial. It doesn't look stripped.

Hex bolt? Do you mean the little set screw that locks the castle nut?
 
AIR from similar anguished posts, it is a nonstandard one. Nothing predictable, like 3.5mm fine or the like.

The redneck solution is to retap it to something 'normal'.

Alas, I believe Maple Leaf is correct. A one of a kind. Did you loose yours? Try the EE. Many a Norc FH have been replaced with USGI or other things.

I can mike mine if that would help. I have no means of measuring thread pitch.
 
I have some really high quality allen wrenches used for RC car racing. They are properly sized and much better than average allen wrenches. Yet not fit properly. The only thing I could get to fit tight was a torx wrench and that's just not right.

You looking for a set screw or the allen key that fits the Norc screw?
 
After rereading the question, I think the answer is simple. Find the largest size that spins in the hole, then go one size up and file it down. Dress five of the six sides with a sharp file, and test fit regularly.
 
what i did was take a steel pin and sand/dremel 4 sides to it and kept slightly sanding 'till it fit snug.then i tapped it in gently with a hammer,grabbed it with a vise grip and turned.
 
I have to retract the statement that I found a key that works. Appears the set screw in the hider I re-parked is now refusing to back out now. I may be in same boat as bush.

I was JUST helping my buddy line the castle nut up and we use a regular 1/16th allen in a flip open set, nothing special.


Maybe they are all so out of spec you have to just figure your own out.

I vote once you get it out to re-tap to a common size and use a nice torx head set screw.
 
Went to drill mine out and the bite of the drill bit was enough to make it screw it self out. Was working with a HF that was not mounted on the rifle.

Remind me not to Park parts with the screws still installed!!!
