^^Have you ever hunted in heavy rain? how easily does the rifle rust? That's my main worry here is the rifle rusting.
I live in BC hehehe so yes , much hunting in rain.
I've taken an m14 type rifle on many extended hunting trips where long days in the field on foot were the only way to get in where the animals are.
so I do what any soldier would have been trained to do with his m14 in the jungle environment that the M14 rifle was born into.....
at the end of each day I removed the plug and piston, closed the spindle valve and cleaned bore and gas cylinder, ensuring gas system was dry. cleaned piston and ensured it was dry.
removed oprod and bolt , cleaned out the grease and reapplied sparingly.
checked the trigger group for debris
reassembled and safety checked, a light wipe down with a non smelly oil each evening as well, wiping down all external parts. ready to go for morning..... takes 20 minutes or less if you have a routine.
I've also hunted over a week on haida gwaii, right on the beaches and surrounding forests and practicing a nightly clean and lube kept our rifles rust free.
these rifles do have lots of nooks and crannys so I would suggest a wipe down with oil each night and remove piston and clean gas system every evening, whether it was fired or not
I also put a rubber finger cot over the flash hider so pine needles and debris don't slip in there.
