All kinds of tests were done in the 1960's and 70's with marginal results. Finding? Not much after many people greased the contact point, tefloned the contact points, free floated their match barrels, etc, etc.
The bottom line? Not much helps, the jury is / was still out and nobody knows. There's nothing definitive as say, "Glass bedding your barreled action" accurizing methods that bring direct improvements.
Sorry that I cannot bring good/great news or direction on this confusing issue! I just left things alone. I did both methods, lots of tension and then greasing and then free floating. NOTHING significant for accuracy gains.

That experiment did not last long, and 2 stocks later, I still did not know any more.
