Hey Guys;

I'm looking at putting a forward mounted scope on my M14, kinda like the one in Black Hawk Down... I want to put a 2-6 Bushnell Elite on it, the one with the extended eye relief.

What I want to know is... HOW do the mounts attach to that part of the rifle on the barrel? Is it tapped somehow or is it simply clamped in place??? What modification is needed to the forward hand guard on top???

ANYONE got some pics of this already done???

Cheers and THANKS!
Jay

Springfield mount

Just looking this morning at what I need to go the Scout route for my second M-305 as well. :)

Springfield has this mount, also clamps to the barrel:

w w w . springfield-armory.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=22_32&products_id=301

It's very similar to Rooster33's, though the rail looks quite a bit longer. I would think this might give you some added attachment options??? Don't know which way to go myself. Any opinions on the benefits of Rooster's vs Springfield's??

Wolverine sells Springfield stuff. This mount is not on their latest Springfield price list, but I'm sure they could get it for you.

Isn't this fun!

Thanks Sharkson! I compared the Rooster33 product at... (remove spaces in http and it will work)

h t t p://whamocamo.bizland.com/rooster33/id8.html

and the one you gave to springfield (above) and the springfield one allows more space to mount a scope...

I have a couple more questions for anyone who knows...

Are people are using TWO of Rooster33's mounts, one for the front ring and one for the rear ring to mount a extended eye relief scope???

Anyone with insight and pics PLEASE chime in!!!

Cheers and Thanks!

I just looked through ALL of LeBaron's scopes and the 2-6 3200 elite is the only extended eye relief scope they carry...

Anyone have any suggestions about RED DOT scopes??? Which one, reliability etc???

Cheers and Thanks!

I'm not sure what the real-life guy had on his m14, but in the movie it was an aimpoint on a brookfield mount.

The mount in the movie wasn't a Brookfield Precsion Mount.

It was the original ARMS# 18 that had a space between the front and rear mounting points. The Aimpoint was mounted on the front mounting point.

The newer ARMS #18 mounts have a continuous rail on top and no space.

The older mounts are VERY HARD to find these days. The guys that have them are hanging on to them.

You could however buy the newer mount and have the middle rail scetion machined out if you really want the BHD look. ;)

ZuluMike;

THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!! Can you provide some insight?

(1) accuracy at 100m, 200m and 300m? It will be my deer gun...
(2) reliability? Does the mount move, did you use loctite?
(3) modification needed to the handguard (pic)
(4) cost of the R33 mount and the aimpoint M2?

Cheers and Thanks!

If you have a Dremel Rotary Tool, you can easily cut the handguard for the mount.

The Rooster33 Scout mount is around $80.00.
The Aimpoints are around $600.00 ish.

When I had my Rooster Scout mount it never moved. It sits just behind the op rod guide. The inner diameter of the mount is made for that area.

Or if you have a good condition handguard, I will swap you for a cutout handguard.;)

I can E-mail you close up pics of the mount & handguard that was on IRENE.It will show you what is needed.Just PM me your E-mail addy.

There is another one sold commercially called the AMEGA Scout Scope Mount for the Garand. A clamp slides between the op rod and the barrel. It attaches to the top portion with 4 screws per side, and there is a contact plate with a set screw. One fellow on jouster.com's Garand forum has pictures. The top plate replaces the entire rear handguard.

The Amega site says it won't fit Chinese barrels. I've heard that in the past about another product, but someone posted that it did indeed fit the M305. Does anyone know if this does work on the M305 or have any feedback on it's quality?
