I wanted a front sight more compatible with my old eyes. A LARGE ring in the front sight allows me to see any kind of target and hit it. A small ring is only suitable for small black bullseye aiming marks. A large ring works on anything.
I make a lollipop front sight from a large target aperture.
First step is to grind off the front post. This exposes the cut in the top of the sight.
Then the lollipop is stuck in the exposed slot. I narrowed the slot with a piece of shim stock so that when the clamping screw is tightened, it also clamps the lollipop in place.
I will try this on the 14th at the last Vintage Rifle shoot of the season.
