hi there. my norinco m305 that i bought on this site has a front sight that is leaning to the right a little. the seller told me the gun had had it's barrel indexed by the west coast m14 gurus on this sight. seller told me the leaning sight was cuz of sloppy welding in china. so, can a person just get a replacemtn front sight/flash suppressor assembly and slap it on or what? i dont really wanna scope the rifle, i'd planned on using iron sights, at least part of the time.

advice appreciated, as usual. god bless the forum.
thanks guys.

When I bought my Norc M14 from Rodger at Dark Int., he showed me a handful of flash hiders that he had that had the front sight on wonky!

If your flash hider has had the tack welds removed and is removable, you could always call Rodger and have him send you a flash hider that is straight.

Assuming of course he has one that is straight, I'm sure he would sell one to ya.

h ttp://www.darkinternational.com/ ... make sure you call him AFTER 10pm EST to have any hope of him answering ;)

That CAN be incorrect indexing, but if the dovetail is machined wrong, it is possible for the barrel to be indexed correctly and the sight to be off vertical. It's also possible, I guess, that if you get rid of the welds on the flash hider, there might be enough play in the splines that locate the thing that just slacking off the castle nut will enable you to fix the thing with no spare parts.

Tell you what, if you have any difficulty tracking down a spare flash hider assembly and you need one I am sure I have a spare around after three barrel chops. Shoot me a pm if you need one.

If it's paid a visit to my barrel vice and truly "tuned at the west coast clinic" it won't have an indexing problem :D ..... I have seen 2 rifles so far for sure that have a poorly machined front sight, I'd have to know who you got it from to say for sure (don't post here, p.m. me :D ) and as misanthropist said, we have been doing routine barrel chops/threads/crowning and the norc flash hider becomes a useless item... so there will no doubt be a few floating around out here... give us a p.m.
cheers
