M14 Fun at Ellwood Epps Today! USGI Glass stocks $ 80ish

Just returned from my drive to Epps in Orillia. They have a few of the USGI glass stocks in their store for $ 80.

The specimen they showed me (in the gun room) was never issued but with storage rust on the metal hardware (easily dealt with). You might have to drill out the rivets for the sling swivel plate and de-rust it and the screw it (I can send you the screws and bolts ) back into place.

$ 80 Better jump fast.

They also have Norc repro bipods that look close to USGI M14E2 bipods for you collector afficionados. $ 80 give or take, I cannot remember. Their sales staff had me drooling at the stock so I did not give the new in pkg bipods much deserved attention.

So you M14 lovers who want a USGI glass stock at a great price! Go for them while they are still available. Do you need one ? Only if you love playing with the fiberglass (build up?) or maybe you want something that came out of the OIF 2004 pictures of US Forces in Iraq and their M14's.

Yes they did run out of the USGI glass stocks, but they do have a whack of black and (goofy camo) Norinco black plastic stocks for around $ 150 IIRC. I like the black plastic stock that came with my 2009 Poly M14 back in August 2009. In my review, I mentioned that the chinese finally got things right with the plastic stock. Okay, so it's plastic and not fiberglass... it sure beats that silly CHU wood stock! Then again, that's just my opinion. Many folks here are getting great results with their chu wood stocks. And that's a good thing.

My issue with the Poly synthetic stock is that the edges are so sharp, they could cut glass. USGI is the way to go regardless...

Agreed. My current M305 will be fitted with a walnut stock as soon as it gets to my door. My next one will be a USGI glass stock.

I took a flat file to the edges ....took about 30 sec.....no more sharp edges

For a basic user, I think the polymer stock suits just fine. Deburring is easy.

The neck is slightly beefier and slopes more than a USGI stock, which is a good thing.

I rock USGI fiberglass and wood simply because I have a number of them not because they are 'better.'

They are cosmetic. But if you are like me, I like to have them. Brownell's has them for $ 10 each, but the shipping will kill ya. Save up for a larger order and then buy one of the ferrules, then.

I got an extra Chu-wood stock. I will harvest the ferrule off of it. BTW, you can have what's left if you want it: Chu-wood stock without metal. I was planning on keeping it for the novelty of "exotic wood", but the novelty has worn off after getting my Boyd's walnut stock! No comparison.

I have two USGI glass stocks. Used. I assume they would look good with a new paint job.

I was going to put my Norcs in them but have decided to stay with wood.

$100 to a good home.
