I was advised that the stock hole at the bottom of the M14 stock is designed as a gas port and that the use of a bipod mount (such as a Harris 2A) would be problematic? Any truth to this?

I can see the need on a FA M14 .. but a semi auto only Chinese knock-off?

Thanks in advance

Many guys have plugged that hole with a bipod stud type mount with success. However, I have seen this method cause cracking of the seam in the forstock of usgi glass and seen the come loose in Chu wood stocks.
The hole is a gas bleed off vent hole so plugging will force gasses up and around the handguard.
Not an "ideal" location but as I said many folks have used the hole for mounting their bipod

I used that same Harris 2R adapter (R = Radius) but cut the loop off my front sling swivel and replaced one of the rivets with the adapter.
I had to carefully remove some wood from the inside of my USGI birch stock in order for the adapter to clear the gas piston though.
I epoxied the adapter into place, filed it down after it had set, and have had a rock solid bipod mount for 7 years now.

Sadlak also has a QD mount that replaces the sling loop and plate. It's very streamlined and adds little in regards to weight compared to a rail which then needs a bipod with a rail clamp ... Adding a little more forend weight.
A handy guy could make their own QD plate with two sling plates by cutting off the sling loop end. Then detail the inside to receive one modified plate, bedded in to align with the holes. Then get a bipod stud threaded with a backing nut and a allen key type bolt and nut for the other hole. Ensure the inside plate is set deep enough to allow the nuts to be flush inside. Bed it all with epoxy putty,,, Goop marine fixfast JB weld or PC7....revy is your friend
Check out Sadlak's QD unit , it might be a good solution for those not wanting a rail or are looking to minimize forend weight.

What about the new DLASK rail for the M14?
Too bad the website doesn't provide too much detail...
Anyways, got one on order, will try it with the KAC rail adaptor I bought today from OSTS to go with the KAC bibod I also bought today...
I"ll keep you posted as soon as I have the DLASK rail
