I have an m305 with a chamber that measures .1638 which is in the No go range for firing .308 out of it. Suggestions to tune and tweak? I was thinking of doing a barrel and bolt replacement with a new barrel and bolt from Arm tac. Good Idea?Or do I just start with a bolt replacement? Is there anyone around Saskatoon OR AREA to do the work? I know I tried Saskatoon Gunsmiths on Ave C for a drill and tap for a scope and I was looking at a couple of months to wait so I just did it myself. But I do not have a barrel vice, indexing tools, or reaming tools. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or do I bite the bullet and pay $200 plus shipping and have it done in Ontario at Tactical Ordnance? Thoughts?

your headspace of 1.638" will be just fine for shooting commercial .308, save yourself some money , 1.638" is pretty average for these rifles and hundreds of us shoot factory .308 from such chambers with reasonable to excellent accuracy and reliability. just stay away from budget brassed ammo like American eagle.
my comments are based on dedicating near 10 years to tuning and modding Chinese and American made m14 type rifles. Others in the main battle rifle forum, with similar chambers, will probably express similar comments as mine.

45ACP is a wizard on the topic, and I will agree. That is a very common measurement in these guns. My headspace measures about the same, and I have shot nothing but commercial brass out of it. Even put a box of AE FMJs through it, won't again though because federal brass is very soft.

If you still have concerns, PM me as I know a guy on here that does awesome work.
