hello all.I was in the market for an m14, when quite literally I stumbled across this one. It is wearing a 22" barrel, and J. Allen enterprise JAE-100 G3 stock, I believe. I have yet to shoot it but I'm looking forward to it. The previous owner told me he experienced a couple jams within the hundred and fifty or so rounds that he fired through this gun. and I'm wondering if this is a common problem with the M 14 possibly be due to its new stock. as well it came with a metal 5 round mag and three metal 20 pinned to 5 round mags. the smaller 5 round mag seems to fit in OK but the longer pinned 20 round mags don't seem to fit very well at all and was wondering if anybody had any insight as to why. I have had magazine issues in the past with other guns but they were polymer easy to sand and file for a better fit these ones being metal I wonder what the best method may be.
Thanks for reading.

I tried but was unsuccessful From my phone (not sure how to do from cell phone). I will try again tonight from my PC.

do they have rivets or do they have little slits in the side?

if they are the ones with the little slits in the side, bent in to make it 5 rounds.... they are junk mags

yes I believe they are the ones with the slits. Any suggestions where to get better ones. They could even be the reason for the jamming issues.

ya them r the ones.

I got a couple to work good by squeezing them in a bench vice till they fit good. I did have to do some minor tweaking here and there with flat nose pliers as well. they were kinda too wide in all my rifles when I got them.

Damm that's the stock I'm looking for. Really nice buddy

I will almost guarantee that your stoppages are being caused by the scope mount. The ARMS#18 is known for it. Albeit one of the best mounts out there.
When I installed that mount on my norinco I had lots of stoppages where it would catch the brass, sort of like a stovepipe, between the mount and the op rod right as the bolt was about to close into battery.
I changed the extractor and ejector springs out for USGI spec springs and it has almost stopped the problem. I still get an occasional stovepipe. Maybe 1 in 100 rounds or less.
The other thing that can be done is to take the Norinco springs and clip a few coils off, put it back together and test it. If required cut another coil off the spring and repeat.

I may end up clipping a bit off my USGI springs next time the bolt is apart.

The op rod was replaced by the previous owner so I guess my next step is to replace the extractor and hope for the best. And as for the mags I will try what 45ACPKING did and again hope for the best. Crap mags or not it would be a shame not to use them. I have no plans to hunt with this particular gun,it is far too heavy (14.2 lbs with bipod and scope with no clip or bullets). I bought it just for fun target gun. and for the $950 the previous owner wanted for it I said why not. thanks again everyone for all your insight

$950!!!! I'll give you $50 more :). You made out like a bandit. The stock alone is worth way more than you paid. Sheesh...why don't I see any of these deals :(

all I could find was American prices on the J. Allen enterprises site. feeling better and better about my purchase guys keep them coming.

Is that why you chose to send one with my rifle...? I guess it goes with the extremely out of spec bolt and mag catch that I had to replace. Pretty sad for a gun you said you went over "every millimeter" of.

what's sadder is that you've chosen to try and embarrass me publicly rather than go the big man route and contact me when you first discovered an issue. I have never received any such complaints from you privately.
not often something gets past me when building these rifles but my reputation so far has been pretty good.
in the past when problems or concerns have come up with rifles I've built or sold , generally at the end of the day, I go the extra mile to see that individual is taken care of to the best of my abilities.

it would seem, "sadly", that you chose to post about your problems after the fact, rather than call me on the issue privately by message or by email....
can't fix or make right, a issue that was never brought to my attention.
seems you've already taken steps to fix the "alledged" issue so no need for me to say much more.

Why would I bother contacting you? The problems were so obvious there is no way you didn't notice especially after mentioning how much work you did and how thoroughly it was inspected. Anyway after that comment about how those KCI mags are crap I got a little pissy. I'll stop my hijack...

Hello all I am now selling or trading gun. If interested let me know. And if you have a Ruger scout you want to get rid of we should talk. Scope not included. Thanks.
