M14 laminated Finish

You can finish a laminate wood stock with any number of products to give it a finish ranging from "pimp-shined" to dull. The US military never used laminate wood stocks on M14s (they were fibreglass, walnut or birch), nor were military stocks ever buffed up to a high shine, except on some rifles used strictly for ceremonial purposes. I once saw a performance by the USMC Silent Drill Team using M1 Garands. The stocks on these "shone like a whore's belly on Christmas Eve", as the old Army saying went.

For a nice civvy pimp-shine finish use Tru-oil. For a dull, military style finish use pure tung oil or raw linseed oil. You can also use products like Minwax Tung Oil finish, which contain drying agents, to get a finish ranging from dull to glossy.
