Got my new CanadaAmmo M14 (M305) out to the range this morning for the first time.

Everything was fine. blam, blam, blam, blam, blam

20 rounds later...

blam, click (FTE), blam, click (FTE), blam click (FTE)

I apologize in advance because I know I've seen a thread about this. (I have searched and read the stickies.) I believe when I re-assembled (and oiled and greased) it after the initial clean, I messed up alignment in the gas system.

Can one of our beneficent gurus please post the steps to troubleshoot and correct the issue, or point me to the correct thread? Thx In Advance - Mojo.

IIRC, I believe there is a way to reinstall the gas piston wrong (I haven't pulled apart my M14 in a couple years for lack of use). You should take the gas assembly parts back out, google up an exploded diagram of an M14 and put it back together using the diagram. Funny it would work for a couple rounds before failing though.

1. Is the gas plug tight ?
2. Remove it from the stock , #### the action and then tilt the rifle muzzle upwards to see if the gas piston falls downwards at a slow rate .

the flat part of the piston tail goes to the top- if it's at an angle , it MAY stick- pull your bolt to the trear and do the 'klunk' test- you should hear the piston moving up and down -

I actually had a similar issue. I took it apart... noticed I had inserted the op rod incorrectly some how and i just flipped it.. and i checked the piston and wasn't sure if it was seated correctly. GOnna see if i have time to go to range tomorrow to try it out

you have to define "quickly"- on a new rifle, i would be somewhat surprised if that was the problem- on one of the old ones or one that has been shot many times, yes it is possible- also, a LOT of people lube EVERYTHING and the gas system is supposed to run dry- that would be my first suspect in the klunk test

I knew I saw something on this issue.

My norc is tight as a drum so I don't think I'm having the same issue as in this video.

Perhaps I've over tightened it causing the same misalignment.

well, that's a simple fix- strip the rifle into compnents, take out the gasplug,
undo the collar and re-align the cylinder so that the piston tail lines up with the op-rod- then do the collar back up , but not enough that it moves the cylinder out of alignment- then drop your gas plug back on and tighten
there's probably something different if you have unitized the assembly
i did notice something else in the video- apparently the hole in the cylinder is OFF CENTER - i'd be running a steel rod of some kind in there to MAKE SURE that the hole in the barrel( ie the gas port) and the hole in the cylinder line up

I'm not a m14 guru. But I had te exact same problems. I actually just oiled up my mags and made sure everything was lubed up good. The mags were stiff and the op rod was resisting the gas without lube. Grease, oil and correct fitting of parts might fix it. It worked for me. She fires like s beaut. Just make sure you clean THROUGHLY after firing.
