Finally got around to getting everything put together for this next M14 project that I will be using in the service rifle matches this year...

Gun is tuned by Kevin (and Scott Im sure) from Dycor here in AB...
Trigger group has been brought down to 5.5lbs..
Op rod spring guide installed and all that fitted good stuff..
Headspace and gas cylinder clearance has been checked...
Front and rear sights have been brought to NM spec...
Stock to be bedded..

I have also added in the Boyds Peppermint laminate stock and a UTG tri rail. I have left the sides off the tri rail as I wanted a cleaner look to this gun rather then anything too tactical.

Quick note.. this stock and configuration is HEAVY... you really know you are holding a battle rifle with this gun. I always thought the Garand was a beast, but it feels like a toy now in comparison. Its perfect for my bear hands...

I will be putting either a Leupold Prismatic or Aimpoint on this gun when the funds allow.

Im also not sure about the front swivel area, if I should keep the stock rivet / sling loop or put in a rail.. time will tell I guess..

I just checked... The Garand as is (not loaded) weighed in at around 9.5lbs. The M14 (mag unloaded), without optics is just over 11.5lbs..

Wonder how much a mount and optic will add...

not sure the exact UTG weight but i have one with an eotech 512A65 , AA model and the two together weigh less than my 6 - 18 x 50 scope alone..... i'd say an ounce or two less.
For a rail assembly that was infact intended for an airsoft rifle...... this UTG tri rail thing is really impressing me.

on the Boyd's stock front..... I've always been partial to my custom fiberglass stocks but have broken down and had a boyd's fatty nutmeg laminate ordered and set to go on my krieger barrelled service rifle...... gawd I can't wait till she gets here ;)

Where did you get the UTG Rail from?

Tell me more about the Garand?

UTG Rail is from Fabsports.... Really great to deal with.. Said I would have it in 4 days, and what do you know, I got it in 4 days...

Garand is a rebuild.. there is a thread floating around somewhere in this battle rifle forum about what I did to it with pictures and stuff..

Both guns are so much fun to shoot in service rifle matches, not many people, if any, usually bring an M1. The sound is very distinctive when shooting.

i think what tops it off for me is the UTG rail with the sides removed.. goes very nicely with the pepper laminate

Ya.. I kept salivating when I was looking at the gun before the rail came. I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but I am happy with it. The black on grey really ties it all together.

If someone even wanted to put the rails on the side, they would have to really take some wood off each side of the stock. I already have to sad down the parts of the stock where the rail is touching. Dont want any "handguard slap" when firing. The stock took a bit of work to get it fitted, as in the other boyds thread, certain parts definitely had to be sanded and milled down to get a tight fit. Took me about 4 hours to get it all tweaked with a dremel, wood working tool and some elbow grease.

Mine had just the original stock, a Falcon 4-14 and a Smith mount and it tipped the scale at a about 14 lbs!!! I would imagine that yours would be about 16lbs:eek: which would be great for the range but not a good hunting rig.

Good thing I don't plan on hunting with it... lol

Bah, still two weeks 'till new stock on the UTG rails :)

I love the sounds M1's make. If I had the money, I'd want a Garand alongside my M14.
