The real USGI ones are OD parkerized not painted black, check the feet where they're attached to the legs, the welds are finished fairly smooth, repros are very rough. Both USGI and repros will have U.S. BIPOD RIFLE M2. About 1 in 10 of the USGI ones will also have the part # 7790688 stamped on the opposite side of U.S. The repros sell for under $100 and the USGI ones from $200-350 with the more expensive ones having the part #. I have all 3.

Those are the markings for a 1980s vintage Taiwanese M2 bipod.
