I just got my Norc M14S and I cant wait to fire it! 3 years old, BNIB with the grease still on it.

I just field stripped it and gaver a good scrub and degreaser. I just tried to pop a mag in and its not seating properly. I clipped it in front to rear, the front caught in, but the back didnt "click". I could tug on the bottom of the mag and it would pop right out. This doesnt seem right...

I didnt fiddle with the mag release when i pulled the trigger assembly out. Im thinking I did something and its just a newbie mistake.

Please correct me M14 gurus :p

Cheers!

Mine was stiff as hell when I first got it. I spent approx an hour sitting in front of the TV working the mag release back and forth. Then I spent a little more time seating and releasing mags until function improved.

Make sure the roll pin in the mag release is in one piece, I have seen it twice now that this pin is split in half and it screws with the mag lock up quite badly. It is a 10 minute fix with a quality roll pin replacement.

the mag release isn't stiff. It moves with seems to be normal motion. just deny wanna make the final click. But I'll try that AND look at the roll pin. Any pics on what to look for?

Thanks

If the mag release works with a mag in it then. Take a pic of the top of the mag catch as it's probaly not flush or it could even be the tab on the back of the mag might be too long and needed to be filled down a bit. Did you have any other mags you could try using?

Ditto.... check the pin before making any mods to the mag.

I have 2 5rnd mags, and they have the same problem. I really gave it a smack and it seemed to seat. But shouldnt be THAT difficult, but the 5/20rnd mag didnt work at all...

It seemed to almost be seated in the housing because when I cocked the action to the rear with an empty mag loosely fitted, the bolt catch would be engaged and the action to the rear... But no *click* and not fully seated. Hopefully that makes sense.

I'll try to take pics soon.

Keep the helpers coming! Thanks!

3yrs old, and NIB???

If it has a WOOD stock, the wood might have swelled enough over the three yearts of sitting around to force the back of the trigger guard out a bit, changing the angle the mag release works at.

If you have access to another stock, try that first before messing with the metal.
Also check the after cleaning safety features,
to make sure the trigger sear catches the hammer with the trigger held back.

Like Holleyman says, check next for a broken roll pin.

Also, some Chinese rifles [ GASP! Surprise! ] are rather roughly finished. I have had to polish down a few of the mag catch surfaces.

good luck with that.

Sorry for the non pics, I'm hoping I'll get a chance Thursday to post some.

Yep, 3 years old and NIB. Its stamped 2007 and came in the original box with sealed plastic and covered in packing grease.

Im not an expert, but I don't think it's the stocks. It's either the rear "tab" on the mag, or the top part of the mag release is too long. Like stated before, the front clips in fine. When it comes to the rear, the tab seats all the way to the top of the "slot"/housing but doesn't seat in at the bottom of the tab. The mag release isn't seated in and doesnt *click* in and hold the mag in place... if that makes any sense....

I'm surprised there's not more people having this problem....

I think I found the problem. The bottom of the tab on the back of the mags was too long and wouldnt seat into the hosuing properly. I shaved about 1/16th down and it went in fine. When i get more 5/20 mags and if i have the same problem, ill maybe get a gunsmith to shave down the mag release instead.

YEP, shaving the metal on the mag release fixes it for ALL the mags,
shaving the metal on the mag tab fixes for that one mag.
