M14 Picatinny Handguard??

Hey guys, looking to purchase a new handguard with a picatinny rail on it for my m14. Im looking to eventually mount a sight on it in the scout position.

Wondering what you guys think would be the best mount? different options? and where to buy?

For forward only I would get the ultimak M8. If you want an option that extend over the action, VLTOR casv 14 or troy battlerail.

http://ctcsupplies.ca/ - these guys carry VLTOR stuff and are great to order from. I am unsure of who carries Springfield stuff these days. I haven't looked.

If you want your rifle to hold zero well, make sure you don't go cheap on the mounting rail. It may hit the bank hard for you at first, but it will save you a lot of grief in the long run. If you are just mounting a sight, the Springfield mount may be for you. If you so desire to run all them lights/lasers etc. the VLTOR might be in your favour.

I put the Ultimak M8 on one of mine and really like it..I went with a Bushnell TRS-25 as it is a great red dot for the money and it will co-witness with the iron sights.

Welcome to the addiction....glad to see another valley boy here !!

Brownells sells the Ultimak M8 and the $100 limit does not apply to these.
To fit it on a shorty a little work has to be done to the rail as the barrel profile is a little different but it is really easy to do.

If you are just mounting a sight, the Springfield mount may be for you. If you so desire to run all them lights/lasers etc. the VLTOR might be in your favour.

My Springfield mount works great, fit my shorty with no mods !, perfect size for a scout scope or red dot...subtle looks, it comes stock on their Scout rifle, and is available direct from Springfield Armory...mind you, if you'd prefer to have a huge cheese grater with flashlights and lasers etc. on your handguard (Rocket Surgery?) then maybe the VLTOR or Ultimak is the better option.
