I would like to upgrade the rear sight on my norinco m14 and possibly the front, any suggestions and info on where to get one would be appreciated. Thanks.

The front blade and rear apeture are both available as "National Match" versions that are narrower and more suited to target shooting. I believe Hungry has a rear sight for sale. You can buy them from Creedmore sports in the US, and last time I ordered, they ship to Canada.

The mechanism on yours may or may not suite your liking and be function. I've had ones that range from excellent to downright lousy. If you can find a Garand rear parts or whole assembly that would be an improvement. You really only need the windage and elevation dials and shaft if you're going to buy a new rear apeture.

You can also modify your own front sight by filing it down.

"...by filing it down..." Don't use a file. It's not accurate enough.
An NM front sight is 62 thou wide vs 72 thou for a standard sight. If you know a machinist, take off the front sight and have 5 thou removed from both sides of the blade and cold blue it. Just doing that will make a difference.
M1/M14 NM sights are pricey. If you can find 'em. Has a smaller aperture and finer adjustments.
Gunparts, when they have 'em, wants $28.95US for an old style aperture alone. $27.55US for a front sight. Listed under M1 Garand. You need the elevation pinion too, if you can find the aperture. Gunparts has no NM pinions.
