what is the best high powered scope (6x18 or greater) with 308 bdc for an m14?

right now I have a bushnell 6x18, which is alright for a $300 optic, on a UTG tri rail with some no name scope rings that arent that great but I am able to consistantly hit a 1 foot squared steel plate at 600m so its not too bad but I want better.

I am going to replace the utg with a vltor and or a troy battle rail and the no name scope rings with weaver tactical.

the whole rifle is going in for a refurbishing and having a criterion barrel installed and the guts tuned up so I want the rest of her to be up to snuff. I am looking for suggestions on scope, rail and ring replacement, Ive done some shopping around but feel someone here has already gone through this.

also i value opinions on rail and scope ring selection as well. Im pretty satisfied with my VLTOR emod stock and my harris bipod on a yhm bottom rail but if you feel like vocalizing your opinions on these options, then i value them too.

There's a KAC scope and rail system for sale on the EE for the M14, it's the exact same one as used by the US military on all their wood stocked sniper M14's in Iraq, Stan, etc. It's a pretty good system. Light and holds zero well.

I run the M14.ca mount with a Zeiss scope and am very happy with the combination. Very solid and has held zero over 500 rounds.

KAC (in EE) is exceptionally light and fantastic quality.
Troy is super solid but you lose irons and it is a bit forward heavy.
If yer current set up is solid and holding a consistant zero, I'd just keep it and put your money in rings and optics..... But that's just me.

There's a KAC scope and rail system for sale ...

This one that uses a SAGE style rear base that fits in the stripper clip guide?

What's the price on the kac pictured above? And does it really differ in quality, weight etc from the utg?

The KAC handguard system is extremely light. Also the stripper clip guide portion is height adjustable. Mind it's been a few years since I've owned one so not sure if current model is same but probly is.
What I didn't like about it was the attachment features, which I know do work as advertised but always seemed wierd to me .

The UTG is pretty beefy for what it is. I like it's 2 barrel clamps and receiver side bolt. The rail system does form a rock solid platform for optics when mounted properly. Some guys have had to slightly adjust them at the receiver mounting hole of the UTG and some have upgraded the barrel clamps. On mine, I ditched all the offshore allen bolts and side bolt for fastenal allen bolts and side bolt swapped out for an ARMS18 side bolt. The stripper clip guide on mine was actually a KAC adjustable unit as I don't think the utg one was adjustable.

That's about it from my experience with those two units.

As for optics... Others probably have good advice here.

So I just went out and bought myself a m305. Out of the box my front sight was adjusted well over to the right of the front sight mount. I haven't had much time to take a look and really see what is going on there but not having it centered is driving me crazy. But thats not really a big issue as I was planning on scoping it anyways. But I was wondering if this is an indication of the indexing of the barrel or just poor assembly. I was planning on getting a Casm rail and a scope (haven't decided on what kind as of yet and any suggestions would be appreciated) but I'm kind of worried that the barrel may be off and I'd rather address the issues with the gun before I sink any more money into it. If anyone can help me out i would appreciate it very much this has been playing on my mind for days.

The sight is probably off a bit. That being said if you want to achieve precision with your m305 it needs tunning. Ie trigger, gas system, barrel alignment etc. but you can do these over time where as if you purchase an Springfield it would be all upfront. But you can achieve the same if not better with a properly tuned norc.
