Hello All,

I am attempting to install a Smith 2014 mount. After finally getting the stripper clip guide out (I had to hit quite hard with a hammer), I'm having difficulty getting the dovetail from the smith mount to go back in. The stripper clip grooves just seem too small.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I see on the surplus rifle site that he had to do some filing when he scoped his M1A.

Do I hit hard or file?

Thanks.

Yeah I tried both sides. I started with the left side (when looking straight down at the gun with it facing away from you) as this is the side that the stripper clip came out of.

Now I'm trying a little diamond grit sand paper on the mount's dovetail to see if i can get it to go. A file just seems a little destructive.

hmmm...mine is very loose. It would fall out if I tilted it sideways...

Well I sanded the sh@t out of the dovetail and managed to wedge it in there. It doesn't exactly "move freely" like the instructions from Smith say it should. I don't have a boresighter, so I have no idea where it's pointing...seems kind of straight. We shall have to see.

Is your mount a Smith mount -god-? If this is the case, I'm guessing there must be some variance in the size of this dovetail groove amongst the norcs?

Zeb, I didn't have a punch that small, but I had a finishing nail that was the right size. I pounded it in backwards using the head as the punch end. I read somewhere that an allen key set will have a key that can be used as a punch.
