Go with Brownells, scope mounts are excluded from the $100.00 limit.
Go with the Ultimak M8 from Brownells ($100 dollar limit doesnt apply) ,I feel they are the best front rail out there.
I had to inlet the inside of the rail a bit to fit my Norinco factory shorty due to its different barrel profile.
Easy fix....this shows where material needs to be removed from the Ultimak ( only required for the factory Shorty )
Bushnell TRS-25 will cowitness with my garand rear sights .
Here is a Bushnell TRS and a Vortex Sparc mounted for comparison...the Sparc sits a little higher

I have the Ultimak Scout mount on my M14 shorty. I ordered it directly from Brownells. Love that thing! Worth every penny. I didn't notice any issues with added weight. I have a Vortex Sparc on it. It's a pleasure to take hunting as well. Has held zero after a ton of that cheap Norinco ammo. I have also shot quite a few boxes of 180 grain Ballistic Silvertips and 150 grain Core Lokts. I installed it myself. Not very difficult.
Glad to hear all this praise for the item. Mine has apparently shipped from Brownell's already, but they neglected to add a tracking number...
I'm either putting a Vortex Strikefire or Bushnell red/green ACOG knockoff on it. I'll post picks when it's up.

I have the lowest mount on my Sparc. That's something to consider before getting a red dot for this configuration.
M14 isnt really that heavy.
The Ultimak isnt heavy though.
Neither is the UTG trirail.
Im currently waiting on my springfield scout/squad mount. which is steel, im expecting a notable weight gain once its installed.
Thinking about going with a PDK 23 russian red dot sight for my rifle though. 1.5moa
I chose the UTG for the main reason that the upper rail extends further back than the Ultimak. I have an Aimpoint COMP ML2 mounted at what I feel is the perfect distance from my face.
The added weight wasn't much of an issue since I just added more with the Aimpoint.
