I noticed that on the SA Scout Squad rifles, that even though the barrel is 18'', the front sight blade is a normal size. Is this an illusion in regards that SA made the front sight protective ears longer as well or is the SA rear sight different than a 22'' barrel model? And if the sights are just stock sights like on a regular 22'' M1A, howcome the Norinco's front sight needs to be taller?

On my shorty a regular front sight works just fine.

I suggest shooting it with the rear sight at the bottom, and noting how low it shoots at 100. Then use a file to lower the front sight in increments, until the group is just a bit high.

Then take it to the bench and dress it nice and level and re-zero with just a few clicks of "up" on the rear sight required.

I have one and the base is taller on the scout sight making it look normal. If you compare it to a norinco it is still slightly shorter, maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch. I havent shot with it yet so I have yet to find out if it will work for my rifle.

Call Springfield Arms and ask them to send you their 'bush rifle' front sight. It is the correct height so you don't have to screw around filing down your front or rear sight. Expen$ive? Hell yes!!! It'll run you in the mid $50. range, but it is a 'National Match'-style thin sight...not some huge tombstone-wide stock sight.Make sure you ask for the proper set screw, It'll be a different thread from the Norinco screw.
