I just did a trial fitting of a Smith weaver base with Burris Zee Signature rings and the cross bolt in the base of the rings cuts off part of the top of the sight picture through the iron sights at elevations of 200 yards and above.

Am I to expect that all rings will do this? Everything looked good about being able to "see throught" the scope base until the rings were installed.

I have the Smith Weaver (PN 2024) and can see perfectly through it with a scope mounted. The mount that I have has a deep groove cut under the actual rails. The crossbolt goes over the top of my line of sight with the iron sights. I would borrow a set of rings from a buddy and see what happens. Maybe it is just those rings.

When the iron sights are set at approximately 200 yard, the cross bolt can be seen squaring off the top of the peep circle. Perhaps I have to live with it. If I lower the rear sight, the problem goes away, but then I could never shoot beyond 200 yards iron sight without interfering with the sight picture. I see the top of the post, but the peep is no longer circular, but squared off on top. Annoying. And I just paid $52.00 for these rings.

Rear sight set at what range?
