Just picked up a Norinco M14S and am wondering if anyone has had experience or any issues using Soft Point ammunition in them?

Here is what I have:

Most people seem to use the FMJ, but I can get these a lot cheaper right now.

i've used almost every kind of slug in mine-i like the remmy corelockt and speer grand slam but you NEED A LIGHTER bullet if you're going to use that in an m14- any m14- the 180 grain stuff is hard on oprods and other things UNLESS YOU TURN THE GAS SYSTEM OFF- proper top end is 168 grain match , 165 hunting-i've found all of mine will do an outstanding job at those bullet weights- if you look on the net for m14 match loads and duplicate those , you get a pretty reasonalbe result

I've had no problem with the Federal 150 grain soft point ammo I've shot through mine. Its more accurate in my rifle than any of the milsurp.

The 180's were the cheapest ammo here as well. I'm thinking its because there may be less call for 180's so they had old stock at old prices. The 180's are great in my bolt gun.

i use nothing but 180's in every 308 i have save anything on the m14 action- savage 99, remmy 742, etc- there's even a few in my shtf - it's just they're not suitable for a steady diet on the m14 and clones
