M14 spring guide rod fluted?

One of the easiest things you can do to up-grade your m305 is a spring guide ..... you’ll only see the difference on target when you replace the stock flat spring guide or of course when you field strip it….flutes just look cool have no real effect on your rifles overall performance ….
And yes mine is fluted it didn’t cost me any more to go that way …and it looks cool

Other upgrades .....yes… but just shoot it ...you’ll be surprised at how well it shoots right out of the box
Save your money and buy ammo

The fluted ones are marginally lighter, but the real advantage is a smaller surface area for friction with the spring. I guess if sand or grit gets in there the grooves would allow it to be pushed aside easier too.

I'm no expert but the only other upgrade that I would do out-of-the-box is a USGI rear sight.

That having been said, the flat op-rod spring guides are perfectly functional and a lot of people seem to be having better luck with Norc rear sights lately. I'd shoot it a bit and see how it does before breaking out the credit card.

Is it also a good idea to upgrade the spring too? I see some people talking about a chrome silicon spring or something.
